Our first year of opening for the National Gardens Scheme. A recent project has been to create 'The Well Garden,' so called because we came across a beautiful stone Well which we were completely unaware was here, while digging a hole for a fence post. The fence had to be re-sited! The well is very old, the stones worn smooth with use. We think it pre-dates the house by a couple of hundred years, so possibly indicates an earlier dwelling. It is a wonderful source of water, particularly while the hosepipe bans are in place.
This part of the garden is planted with strong, contrasting colours. The plants include Rosa 'Charles de Mills, 'Bleu Magenta and Rose de Rescht. There are carmine Dahlias with orange Alstromeria, Euphorbia 'Fireglow' and Cotinus. Vibrant colours in an intimate space, where before was grass and a wonky hedge.
